Unidealised textures in a seemingly arbitrary slice of reality. Harsh frames, somehow unforgiving, yet holding within

them a compassionate gaze that unveils an improbable beauty. This series dares to challenge conventional notions of

what merits framing, thus breaking free from the canons of traditional photography. Starkness, with its raw honesty,

possesses its own undeniable allure.

In his diasporic journey through Italy, Hitters, freshly displaced from his homeland, discovers himself amidst foreign

yet oddly familiar corners. Seeking solace in the act of making new corners his own, he finds comfort in the unadorned

simplicity of his surroundings. However, within the beholder’s gaze lies a tapestry of emotions - loneliness,

indifference, decadence, and a glimmer of hope. The unbounded essence of his subjects suggests a profound connection

with the concept of freedom. Hitters eschews the impulse to embellish reality, instead embracing its imperfections with

an unwavering acceptance.

Bar Italia serves as a poignant reflection of an Italy stripped of its former identity, having relinquished its previous

icons. Here, Hitters finds solace in the transient, using it as a shield to confront his own blurred sense of self. Each

captured composition becomes a testament to his profound identification with the unseen or abandoned. Hitters’ lens

breathes life into these overlooked corners, scattered throughout Italian towns, inviting viewers to recognise the

inherent value in life’s simple moments.
